Artix Tablets combine artemether (80 mg) and lumefantrine (480 mg) in a potent antimalarial therapy. This fixed-dose combination effectively treats acute, uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum, including in areas with multi-drug resistant strains.
Uses
Artix is primarily used for:
- Treatment of acute, uncomplicated malaria caused by P. falciparum
- Management of malaria in areas with multi-drug resistant strains
- Treatment of mixed malarial infections including P. falciparum
Benefits
- Highly effective against drug-resistant malaria strains
- Rapid parasite clearance
- Reduces risk of progression to severe malaria
- Convenient fixed-dose combination
- Well-tolerated with good safety profile
- Suitable for both adults and children (weight-based dosing)
How It Works
Artemether rapidly reduces parasite load by interfering with the parasite’s ability to detoxify heme. Lumefantrine, with its longer half-life, eliminates residual parasites and prevents recrudescence, providing both rapid symptom relief and sustained antimalarial action.
Dosage
For adults and children weighing 35 kg or more, the typical dosage is 1 tablet twice daily for 3 days, making a total of 6 tablets. Take Artix with fatty food or milk to enhance absorption. Always follow your healthcare provider’s specific dosing instructions.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal pain, and palpitations. These are usually mild and transient. Serious side effects are rare but can include severe allergic reactions, abnormal heart rhythms, or liver problems. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience severe or persistent side effects.
Warning
Artix should not be used for malaria prevention. It’s not recommended for patients with severe malaria or certain heart conditions. Use caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment. This medication may cause dizziness and affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.
