Betadrone-N Eye/Ear Drops is a prescription medication combining Betamethasone Sodium Phosphate (a corticosteroid) and Neomycin Sulphate (an antibiotic). This dual-action formulation is designed to treat inflammatory and infectious conditions of both the eyes and ears.

Uses

Betadrone-N is primarily used for the short-term treatment of:

  • Allergic conjunctivitis
  • Inflammatory conditions of the eye
  • Bacterial infections of the external ear
  • Other inflammatory conditions of the ear

Benefits

  • Reduces inflammation in eyes and ears
  • Treats bacterial infections
  • Dual-action formulation for comprehensive treatment
  • Suitable for both ocular and otic use

How it Works

  1. Betamethasone Sodium Phosphate: A corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by suppressing the immune response.
  2. Neomycin Sulphate: An antibiotic that kills or inhibits the growth of certain bacteria.

Dosage

Typical dosage varies depending on the condition being treated and whether it’s used for eyes or ears. Always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions. Generally:

  • For eye conditions: 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) 3-4 times daily
  • For ear conditions: 2-3 drops in the affected ear(s) 3-4 times daily

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Temporary stinging or burning sensation
  • Blurred vision (when used in eyes)
  • Increased intraocular pressure (with prolonged use in eyes)
  • Ear discomfort (when used in ears)

More serious side effects can include allergic reactions or secondary infections.

Warning

  • Not for long-term use due to potential side effects of corticosteroids
  • Use with caution in patients with glaucoma or ear drum perforation
  • May mask signs of infection or worsen existing infections
  • Not recommended for viral or fungal infections

When using Betadrone®-N Eye/Ear Drops or Betadrone®-N Eye Ointment, it is important to follow the instructions provided by your healthcare professional or the directions on the product packaging. For Betadrone®-N Eye/Ear Drops:
  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before using the drops.
  2. Tilt your head back or lie down and look up at the ceiling.
  3. Gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
  4. Hold the dropper close to your eye without touching it.
  5. Squeeze the prescribed number of drops into the lower eyelid pocket. Be careful not to touch the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface to avoid contamination.
  6. Close your eye gently and keep it closed for a minute or two to allow the medication to spread evenly.
  7. If using the drops for an ear infection, follow the same steps but apply the drops into the ear canal instead of the eye.

  2. Tilt your head back or lie down and look up at the ceiling.
  3. Gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.

  5. Close your eye gently and move your eyeball around to spread the ointment evenly over the eye.
  6. If using the ointment for an ear infection, follow the same steps but apply a small amount of ointment into the ear canal instead of the eye.
After using the drops or ointment, it is advisable to keep your eyes or ears closed for a short period to allow the medication to take effect. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper or tube to any surface, including your eye or ear, to prevent contamination.
