Cifradex Eye/Ear Drops is a combination medication containing ciprofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and dexamethasone, a corticosteroid. This dual-action formulation is designed to treat bacterial infections and reduce inflammation in the eyes and ears.

Uses

Cifradex is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye and ear, particularly those accompanied by inflammation. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as bacterial conjunctivitis, blepharitis, external otitis, and other superficial ocular and otic infections caused by susceptible organisms.

How it works

Dosage

For eye infections, typically 1-2 drops are instilled into the affected eye(s) every 4-6 hours. For ear infections, 3-4 drops are usually instilled into the affected ear(s) twice daily. Always follow the specific dosing instructions provided by your healthcare provider.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include temporary stinging or burning upon application, blurred vision, and altered taste sensation. More serious but rare side effects can include severe allergic reactions, increased intraocular pressure, and superinfection.

Warning

Prolonged use of Cifradex may lead to fungal infections or antibiotic resistance. It should not be used for viral or fungal infections. Patients with perforated eardrums should use this medication with caution. Discontinue use and seek medical attention if irritation or hypersensitivity occurs.

Important Information

Shake the bottle well before each use. Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface to avoid contamination. If you are using other eye/ear medications, wait at least 5 minutes between applications. For eye use, do not wear contact lenses during treatment. Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve.
