Dermazin Cream 50g contains 1% Silver Sulphadiazine, a potent topical antimicrobial agent. This specialized formulation is designed to prevent and treat infections in burn wounds, offering a powerful defense against a broad spectrum of pathogens while promoting healing.
Uses
Dermazin Cream is primarily used for the prevention and treatment of infections in second and third-degree burns. It’s also effective in managing other types of wounds, including leg ulcers, pressure sores, donor sites in skin grafting, extensive abrasions, and finger-tip injuries.
Benefits
- Provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection
- Helps prevent infection in burn wounds
- Promotes healing of damaged tissue
- Reduces inflammation and pain associated with burns
- Easy to apply and remove
- Forms a protective barrier over the wound
- Minimizes scarring in some cases
- Effective against many strains of bacteria, including some antibiotic-resistant strains
How It Works
Silver Sulphadiazine works through a dual mechanism. The silver ions in the cream provide direct antimicrobial action, disrupting bacterial cell walls and interfering with DNA replication. The sulphadiazine component acts as a sulfonamide antibiotic, inhibiting bacterial growth by interfering with folic acid synthesis.
Dosage
Apply a 1/16 inch (1.5 mm) thick layer of Dermazin Cream to the affected area once or twice daily, or as directed by your healthcare provider. The cream should be gently spread to cover the entire wound area. For best results, the wound should be cleaned and debrided before each application.
Side Effects
While generally well-tolerated, some patients may experience side effects such as skin irritation, burning sensation, rash, or itching. In rare cases, more serious side effects like leukopenia (low white blood cell count) may occur. If you notice any unusual symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Warning
Dermazin Cream is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. If you have a known allergy to sulfonamides or silver compounds, do not use this product. Discontinue use and seek medical attention if you develop signs of an allergic reaction or if the wound shows signs of worsening infection.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Pregnant women should use Dermazin Cream only if clearly needed and under close medical supervision. It’s not known if Silver Sulphadiazine passes into breast milk, so caution is advised for nursing mothers. Consult your healthcare provider before using this product if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Interaction
- May interact with enzymatic debriding agents, potentially reducing their effectiveness
- Could interfere with certain diagnostic tests, particularly those involving thyroid function
- Possible interaction with other topical medications applied to the same area
- May affect the absorption of other medications if used on large areas of the body
Important Information
Dermazin Cream should be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional, especially for extensive burns or wounds. Regular wound assessment is crucial during treatment. The cream may stain clothing or bedding, so take appropriate precautions. In case of ingestion, seek immediate medical attention. While effective, Dermazin Cream is not a substitute for proper wound care and overall burn management. Always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions for comprehensive burn treatment.
