Kenop 625mg, also known as Co-Amoxiclav, is an antibiotic medication. It is a combination of two active ingredients: 500mg of amoxicillin (as trihydrate) and 125mg clavulanic acid (as potassium clavulanate). These tablets are pale yellow, oblong, biconvex, and embossed with 625 on one side.
Uses
Kenop 625mg is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. These include respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, tonsillitis, and middle ear infections; infections of the kidneys, abdomen, and lower urinary tract including cystitis; and skin and tissue infections.
Benefits
The primary benefit of Co-Amoxiclav is its effectiveness in treating a wide range of bacterial infections. The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid allows it to combat bacteria that would otherwise be resistant to amoxicillin alone2.
Mechanism of Action
Amoxicillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic, works by interfering with the ability of bacteria to form cell walls, which are vital for their survival. This interference causes holes to appear in the cell walls, leading to the death of the bacteria. Clavulanic acid, on the other hand, prevents the bacteria from producing beta-lactamases, chemicals that could make amoxicillin less effective.
Dosage
The usual dose of Co-Amoxiclav is one tablet (either 375mg or 625mg) taken two times a day. The dosage may be lower for children, and the doctor will use the child’s weight to determine the appropriate dosage. The doses should be spaced out evenly throughout the day, at least 4 hours apart.
Warnings
Co-Amoxiclav can sometimes cause stomach problems such as nausea, vomiting, indigestion, or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and can be reduced by taking the tablets at the beginning of a meal. Very rarely, some people may experience hyperactivity, dizziness, headache, and convulsions.
Important Information
It’s crucial to check with your doctor if you are sensitive or allergic to Co-Amoxiclav Tablets or any of the ingredients, or to penicillin or other antibiotics. Also, inform your doctor if you have ever developed serious liver problems when taking an antibiotic, if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, if you have liver or kidney problems, if you have glandular fever, or if you are on a low potassium diet
