Lynsunate Suspension is a pediatric antimalarial medication combining artemether (20mg) and lumefantrine (120mg) per 5mL. This flavored oral suspension is specifically formulated for treating uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in infants and children weighing 5-35kg.
Uses
Lynsunate Suspension is primarily indicated for treating acute, uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria in pediatric patients. It effectively resolves malarial symptoms including fever, chills, headache, and vomiting while preventing progression to severe disease.
Benefits
- Child-friendly flavored suspension for easy administration
- Enhanced absorption compared to tablet formulations
- Quick symptom relief through artemether action
- Long-lasting protection via lumefantrine
- Prevents malaria recurrence
- Convenient twice-daily dosing schedule
- Suitable for infants and young children
- Reduces risk of antimalarial resistance
How It Works
The medication combines two active ingredients: artemether rapidly eliminates most malaria parasites within hours, while lumefantrine concentrates in red blood cells to clear remaining parasites and prevent recurrence over several days.
Duration of Action
Initial symptom improvement typically occurs within 24-48 hours. Complete treatment course lasts 3 days for full therapeutic effect and resistance prevention.

Hello Anna,
Lynsunate Suspension is used to treat malaria, not for monthly prevention. For malaria prevention (prophylaxis), a different medication is recommended. Please consult a doctor to prescribe a suitable preventive option for your toddler.

Hi Kay,
If you mistakenly added water up to the 80ml mark instead of 60ml, the medication is now diluted and may not be as effective since the concentration is lower than intended. It’s important to have the correct dosage to ensure the treatment works properly.
I recommend speaking with your pharmacist or doctor for advice. They may suggest discarding the suspension and starting again to ensure your child receives the right dosage.

Storing the Remaining Drug
Note:
Typically, many oral suspensions have a specific period during which they should be used after opening, often ranging from 7 to 28 days.
- After the Treatment Course:
- Storage: Once you have completed the 3-day treatment course, check the expiration date and storage instructions on the bottle. If the medication is still within its expiration date and stored according to the instructions (usually in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight), it can generally be kept for future use.
- Consult a Healthcare Provider: Before using the remaining medication for another course of treatment, it is best to consult a healthcare provider. They can confirm if it is appropriate to use the leftover medication based on your son’s current health condition and needs.
