How It Works
Amoxicillin interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. This action prevents the cross-linking of peptidoglycan molecules, weakening the bacterial cell wall and leading to cell lysis and death of susceptible bacteria.
Duration of Action
Effects begin within 1-2 hours of administration. Peak blood levels occur around 2 hours after dosing. The antibiotic remains active in the body for approximately 8 hours, necessitating multiple daily doses for complete treatment.
Dosage
Standard adult dose is 500mg every 8 hours or 875mg every 12 hours depending on infection severity. Children’s dosage is based on body weight, typically 20-90mg/kg/day divided into 2-3 doses. Complete the prescribed course, usually 7-14 days.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Vitamox 500mg include gastrointestinal disturbances, diarrhea, nausea, and skin rash. Less frequent effects may include headache, dizziness, and oral thrush. Severe allergic reactions are rare but require immediate medical attention.
Warning
Discontinue Vitamox 500mg use and seek immediate medical attention if signs of allergic reaction occur. Complete the full course of antibiotics even if symptoms improve. Monitor for signs of secondary infections or antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
