Norvasc 5mg (Amlodipine) is a widely prescribed calcium channel blocker medication used to effectively manage hypertension (high blood pressure) and certain types of angina (chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart).

Uses

 Norvasc 5mg is primarily indicated for the treatment of hypertension, either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive medications. It can also be used to manage chronic stable angina pectoris and vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal’s angina).

 The recommended starting dose for hypertension is 5mg once daily, which can be increased up to 10mg daily if needed. For angina, the typical dose range is 5-10mg once daily.

Side Effects

 Common side effects associated with Norvasc 5mg may include headache, dizziness, flushing, edema (swelling of the legs or ankles), fatigue, and nausea. Less common side effects may include palpitations, abdominal pain, and muscle cramps.

Warning

 Norvasc 5mg should be used with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment, as dosage adjustments may be necessary. It should be avoided or used with caution in patients with heart failure or aortic stenosis. Patients should inform their healthcare provider about any existing medical conditions or medications they are taking.

Important Information

 Norvasc 5mg may interact with certain medications, such as CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole), anticonvulsants, and immunosuppressants. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate is recommended during treatment. Patients should not discontinue Norvasc 5mg abruptly, as this may lead to a rapid increase in blood pressure.
