How It Works

Duration of Action

Side Effects
Common side effects include mild digestive disturbances, such as indigestion, nausea, or stomach discomfort. Less common effects include dizziness, headache, and fluid retention. Serious but rare side effects include gastrointestinal bleeding, kidney problems, or allergic reactions requiring immediate medical attention.
Warning
NSAIDs like Orthopain can increase risk of serious cardiovascular events, including heart attack and stroke, especially with long-term use or in patients with heart disease. They also carry risk of gastrointestinal ulceration, bleeding, and perforation. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration needed. Not suitable for perioperative pain in coronary artery bypass surgery.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Orthopain is not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, as it may cause premature closure of the ductus arteriosus in the fetus. It should be avoided during breastfeeding as meloxicam passes into breast milk and may affect the nursing infant.
