Resthrotec 75mg Tablet contains Diclofenac Sodium 75mg (NSAID) and Misoprostol 200mcg (prostaglandin E1 analog). This combination provides effective pain relief while protecting against NSAID-induced gastric ulcers in at-risk patients.

Uses

Resthrotec 75mg reduces the risk of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers in patients requiring diclofenac therapy. It treats pain and inflammation associated with arthritis, musculoskeletal disorders, and other conditions while providing gastric protection for high-risk patients.

Benefits

  • Provides effective pain and inflammation relief through diclofenac
  • Protects gastric mucosa from NSAID-induced ulceration
  • Reduces risk of serious gastrointestinal complications
  • Combines two essential therapies in one tablet
  • Improves treatment compliance for at-risk patients
  • Maintains anti-inflammatory efficacy with added safety
  • Suitable for patients with history of gastric issues
  • Offers convenient twice-daily dosing regimen

How It Works

Diclofenac inhibits COX enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis to provide anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects. Misoprostol enhances gastric mucosal defenses by increasing mucus and bicarbonate secretion while reducing acid production. Together, Resthrotec delivers effective pain relief with gastric protection.

Dosage

Patient GroupStandard DosageMaximum Daily Dosage
Adults1 tablet twice daily2 tablets daily
Elderly1 tablet twice daily2 tablets daily

Take with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow tablets whole – do not split, crush, or chew. Duration as directed by physician, usually 7-14 days.

Duration of Action

Resthrotec begins working within 30-60 minutes of administration. Peak anti-inflammatory effects occur within 1-3 hours and last 8-12 hours per dose. Gastric protective effects of misoprostol begin immediately and continue throughout the dosing interval.

Side Effects

Common side effects include abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, dizziness, and headache. Patients may experience nausea, vomiting, flatulence, or constipation. Women may experience increased menstrual flow or uterine contractions. Most effects are mild and resolve with continued use.

Warning

Increased risk of cardiovascular events with prolonged NSAID use. Avoid in late pregnancy due to risk of premature labor and fetal complications. Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to diclofenac, misoprostol, or other NSAIDs. Not recommended for women of childbearing potential unless using effective contraception.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Resthrotec is contraindicated during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, due to misoprostol’s ability to induce uterine contractions and cause fetal harm. Women of childbearing age must use effective contraception. Use during breastfeeding is not recommended as both components may pass into breast milk.

Interaction

  • May increase risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulants
  • Reduced effectiveness when combined with antacids
  • Potential interaction with ACE inhibitors and diuretics
  • May increase lithium or digoxin blood levels
  • Possible reduced efficacy with proton pump inhibitors
  • Enhanced nephrotoxicity risk with other NSAIDs

Precaution

Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, renal or hepatic impairment. Monitor for signs of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation despite gastroprotection. Elderly patients require careful monitoring. Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment. Regular blood pressure and kidney function monitoring may be necessary.

Important Information

Resthrotec should be taken with food to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Avoid concurrent use with other NSAIDs or salicylates. Report any signs of ulceration, bleeding, or unusual abdominal pain immediately. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary. Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
