Uses

Stugeron treats motion sickness, vertigo, tinnitus, chemotherapy, and Ménière’s disease symptoms. It’s used for travel-related nausea and vomiting, balance disorders, peripheral vascular conditions like Raynaud’s phenomenon and in Cogan’s disease, which is characterized by inflammation of the eyes and ear issues.. Stugeron also helps manage symptoms of cerebral and peripheral circulatory insufficiency in elderly patients.

Benefits

  • Prevents motion sickness and travel-related nausea
  • Reduces vertigo and dizziness effectively
  • Improves peripheral blood circulation
  • Alleviates tinnitus and hearing disturbances
  • Manages Ménière’s disease symptoms
  • Enhances cerebral blood flow in elderly
  • Reduces frequency of balance-related falls
  • Well-tolerated with minimal sedative effects
  • Suitable for long-term use when needed

How It Works

Stugeron works by blocking histamine H1 receptors in the vestibular system, reducing motion sensitivity and nausea. Its calcium channel blocking properties improve blood flow by preventing vascular smooth muscle contraction. This dual action addresses both neurological symptoms and circulatory issues associated with various conditions.

Dosage

Condition Adult Dosage Children (5-12 years)
Motion Sickness 25mg 2-3 times daily 12.5mg 2-3 times daily
Vertigo/Balance 25mg 3 times daily 12.5mg 2 times daily

Take Stugeron after meals to reduce stomach irritation. For motion sickness prevention, take 2 hours before travel.

Duration of Action

Stugeron begins working within 1-2 hours of administration, with peak effects occurring at 2-4 hours. The medication provides symptom relief for 6-8 hours per dose. For motion sickness prevention, effects can last throughout typical travel periods when taken prophylactically.

Side Effects

Common side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, and mild gastrointestinal upset. Some patients experience weight gain, fatigue, or headache. Rare side effects include extrapyramidal symptoms, skin rash, or jaundice. Most side effects are mild and resolve with continued use or dose adjustment.

Warning

Long-term high-dose use may cause movement disorders or liver problems. Stugeron can cause drowsiness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until effects are known. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to side effects. Discontinue use if yellowing of skin or eyes occurs.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Stugeron should be used during pregnancy only when clearly necessary and benefits outweigh risks. Limited data exists on safety during pregnancy. The medication passes into breast milk in small amounts. Consult healthcare provider before use during breastfeeding.

Interaction

  • May enhance sedative effects of alcohol and CNS depressants
  • Possible reduced effectiveness of antihistamines
  • May interact with medications affecting liver enzymes
  • Could enhance effects of blood pressure medications
  • Potential interaction with anticholinergic medications causing increased side effects

Precaution

Use with caution in patients with liver disease, Parkinson’s disease, or elderly individuals. Monitor for signs of movement disorders during long-term use. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Stugeron. Patients with porphyria should avoid this medication due to potential exacerbation.

Important Information

Stugeron may cause weight gain with long-term use due to appetite stimulation. For motion sickness, take before symptoms develop for best effectiveness. Store below 25°C in original packaging. If symptoms persist despite treatment, consult healthcare provider to rule out underlying conditions requiring different management approaches.
