Actifed Syrup Cold is an effective antihistamine-decongestant combination product formulated to provide relief from multiple upper respiratory allergy symptoms, including sinus congestion, runny nose, watery eyes, and sneezing fits.
Uses:
Actifed Syrup Cold is indicated for the temporary relief of nasal and sinus congestion, colds, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies. The antihistamine component alleviates runny nose, watery eyes, and other allergic reactions, while the decongestant component unblocks nasal passages and sinuses to facilitate breathing.
Benefits:
- Dual-action formula clears sinuses and controls allergy symptoms
- Non-drowsy formula suitable for daytime use
- Relieves congestion without causing drowsiness
- Can be used by both adults and children
- Pleasant-tasting mixed fruit flavor
Mechanism of Action:
Actifed Syrup contains triprolidine and pseudoephedrine as active ingredients. Triprolidine is an antihistamine that blocks the action of histamines released during an allergic reaction, thereby preventing symptoms like sneezing and runny nose. Pseudoephedrine is an effective nasal decongestant that constricts swollen nasal blood vessels to relieve congestion and open blocked sinus passages.
Dosage:
For children 6-12 years old – 5mL every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Not to exceed 20mL in 24 hours or 7 days. Adults and children over 12 years – 10mL every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Not to exceed 40mL in 24 hours or 7 days.
Warning:
Actifed Syrup should not be used by patients with severe hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or difficulties in urination due to prostate enlargement. It should not be used simultaneously with monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors or within 2 weeks after MAO inhibitor therapy.
Important Information:
Actifed Syrup may cause drowsiness even in the non-drowsy formula. During use, patients should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery. If nervousness, dizziness, or insomnia occur, patients should discontinue use and consult a doctor. As with any medication, if adverse reactions occur, treatment should be discontinued and a healthcare professional promptly consulted.
