Biocine Syrup Lincomycin is primarily used for treating various bacterial infections. This oral antibiotic suspension contains lincomycin, a member of the lincosamide family, and is available in different strengths and flavors to improve palatability, especially for pediatric patients.
Uses
Biocine Syrup Lincomycin is primarily used for:
- Treating respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, tonsillitis)
- Managing skin and soft tissue infections
- Treating septic arthritis
- Managing osteomyelitis
- Addressing bone and joint infections
- Combating other bacterial infections susceptible to lincomycin
Benefits
- Effective against gram-positive bacterial infections
- Alternative for penicillin-allergic patients
- Good tissue penetration including bone and joints
- Available in liquid form for easier administration
- Effective against anaerobic bacteria
- Suitable for serious infections resistant to other antibiotics
- Can be used in children and adults
- Concentrates well in infected tissues
- Alternative to injectable antibiotics for oral therapy
How It Works
Biocine works by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis essential for bacterial growth and reproduction. This bacteriostatic action prevents bacteria from multiplying, allowing the immune system to eliminate the infection.
Dosage
Age Group | Weight Range | Dosage (ml) | Frequency |

Take on empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals for optimal absorption. Divide daily dose into 3-4 equal doses. Take on empty stomach for better absorption. Complete full course as prescribed.
Duration of Action
Biocine begins working within hours of administration, with peak blood levels reached in 2-4 hours. Therapeutic levels are maintained for 6-8 hours per dose. Clinical improvement typically occurs within 24-48 hours, but complete treatment courses usually last 7-14 days.
Side Effects
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. Some patients experience metallic taste, dizziness, or skin rash. Serious side effects include pseudomembranous colitis, severe diarrhea, or allergic reactions requiring immediate medical attention.
Warning
Biocine can cause severe colitis, including potentially fatal pseudomembranous colitis. Discontinue immediately if severe diarrhea develops during or after treatment. This medication should not be used for minor infections or viral infections. Reserve use for serious bacterial infections when safer alternatives aren’t suitable.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Biocine crosses the placenta and should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed and benefits outweigh risks. It’s excreted in breast milk and may affect nursing infants. Consider temporary discontinuation of breastfeeding or choose alternative antibiotics when possible.
Interaction
- May enhance effects of neuromuscular blocking agents
- Possible reduced effectiveness of live bacterial vaccines
- May increase risk of colitis when combined with other antibiotics
- Could alter effectiveness of oral contraceptives
- Potential interaction with warfarin increasing bleeding risk
Precaution
Use cautiously in patients with history of gastrointestinal disease, liver impairment, or kidney dysfunction. Monitor for signs of colitis including severe diarrhea, blood in stool, or abdominal pain. Shake syrup well before each use. Store in refrigerator and discard after 14 days.
Important Information
Biocine is reserved for serious infections when other safer antibiotics aren’t appropriate. Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve. Report severe diarrhea, bloody stools, or persistent abdominal pain immediately. This medication may cause diarrhea up to two months after treatment ends. Keep refrigerated and use measuring device provided for accurate dosing.
