Grenocid Suspension is a mint-flavored antacid containing Aluminium Hydroxide (250 mg), Magnesium Hydroxide (250 mg), and Simethicone (50 mg) per 5ml. This combination provides effective relief from heartburn, acid indigestion, and gas-related discomfort.
Uses
Grenocid Suspension treats heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, and upset stomach associated with excess gastric acid. It also relieves bloating, gas pain, and flatulence. The suspension is commonly used for gastritis, duodenal ulcers, peptic ulcer symptoms, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) management.
Benefits
- Neutralizes excess stomach acid effectively
- Provides rapid relief from heartburn and indigestion
- Reduces bloating and gas-related discomfort
- Offers dual antacid action for balanced pH control
- Pleasant mint flavor improves patient compliance
- Liquid form allows faster onset of action
- Safe for frequent use as directed
- Provides sustained acid neutralization
- Helps protect stomach lining from acid damage
How It Works
Aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide work as antacids by neutralizing excess stomach acid, raising gastric pH to provide relief from acid-related symptoms. Simethicone acts as an anti-foaming agent, breaking down gas bubbles in the digestive tract to reduce bloating and discomfort from trapped gas.
Dosage
Patient Age | Standard Dosage | Maximum Daily Dosage |
---|---|---|
Adults | 5-10ml 3-4× daily | 60ml daily |
Children 6-12 years | 2.5-5ml 3-4× daily | 30ml daily |
Take between meals and at bedtime, or as directed by physician. Shake well before use. Do not dilute with water.
Duration of Action
Grenocid Suspension begins working within 3-5 minutes of administration. Peak acid neutralization occurs within 15-30 minutes and lasts for 1-3 hours. Simethicone effects on gas reduction are typically felt within 30 minutes and may last 2-4 hours.
Side Effects
Most patients tolerate Grenocid Suspension well. Occasional side effects include mild constipation from aluminium hydroxide or loose stools from magnesium hydroxide. Some patients may experience chalky taste or mild stomach cramping. These effects are usually temporary and resolve with continued use.
Warning
Do not use for more than 14 consecutive days without consulting a healthcare provider. Prolonged use may lead to electrolyte imbalances or mask serious underlying conditions. Avoid use if you have severe kidney disease, as magnesium and aluminium accumulation may occur.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Grenocid Suspension is generally considered safe during pregnancy when used as directed for short-term relief. Consult healthcare provider before use. Limited amounts pass into breast milk, making it relatively safe for nursing mothers when used occasionally.
Interaction
- May reduce absorption of certain antibiotics if taken simultaneously
- Could decrease effectiveness of iron supplements when taken together
- May interfere with absorption of some heart medications
- Possible reduced effectiveness of certain thyroid medications
- May alter absorption of some anti-seizure medications
Precaution
Use with caution in patients with kidney disease, as prolonged use may cause magnesium or aluminium accumulation. Patients on sodium-restricted diets should consult healthcare providers. Diabetic patients should be aware of sorbitol content. Shake well before each use and store at room temperature.
Important Information
Grenocid Suspension is an over-the-counter antacid for symptomatic relief only. If symptoms persist beyond 14 days or worsen, consult a healthcare provider to rule out serious conditions. Do not exceed recommended dosage. Keep bottle tightly closed and store away from heat and moisture. Check expiration date before use and discard if expired.
