Step 1: Preparation | Wash and dry your hands thoroughly. Choose a clean, well-lit area to perform the test. Carefully read the instructions included in the kit. |
Step 2: Sample Collection | Use the included lancet to prick your finger. Gently squeeze your fingertip to obtain a drop of blood. Place the blood sample on the designated test strip or collection pad. |
Step 3: Apply the Buffer | Add the buffer solution (supplied in the kit) to the specified area on the test device. Follow the instructions for the exact number of drops. |
Step 4: Wait for Results | Wait for the specified time (usually 15–20 minutes) without disturbing the test device. Do not interpret the results before or after the recommended time. |
Step 5: Interpret the Results | Check the results. Refer to the control (C) and test (T) line indicators: - 1 line at "C" = Negative (No HIV detected) - 2 lines at "C" and "T" = Positive (HIV detected) - No line at "C" = Invalid (repeat test with a new kit) |
Step 6: Disposal | Safely dispose of the used test kit, lancet, and other components as instructed. Place them in a sealed bag before disposal to prevent contamination. |
Step 7: Follow-Up | If the result is positive, consult a healthcare professional immediately for further testing and confirmation. If the result is negative but you believe you were recently exposed, retest after the window period (usually 3 months). |
