How to Use:
- Administration: Avicef Injection (Ceftriaxone) is administered via intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) injection by a healthcare professional.
- Preparation: The injection should be reconstituted with a suitable diluent like sterile water, saline, or a specific diluent recommended by the manufacturer.
- For IV injection, it is usually mixed with at least 10 mL of a suitable diluent and administered slowly over 2-4 minutes.
- For IM injection, it can be mixed with 3.5 mL of a 1% lidocaine solution to reduce pain at the injection site and administered into a large muscle, such as the gluteus.
- Frequency: Typically given once or twice daily, depending on the severity of the infection and the doctor's prescription.
- Adults: The typical dose ranges from 1-2 grams once a day or in divided doses every 12 hours. For severe infections, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 4 grams per day.
- Children: The recommended dose is 50-75 mg/kg once daily or in two divided doses. The maximum dose should not exceed 2 grams per day.
- Neonates (0-14 days old): 20-50 mg/kg once daily. For severe infections, up to 50 mg/kg may be used, but the daily dose should not exceed 50 mg/kg.
- Elderly Patients: Dose adjustments may be required based on kidney function.
- Check for allergies to cephalosporins or penicillins.
- Monitor for potential side effects, such as allergic reactions, gastrointestinal discomfort, or signs of superinfection.
- Avoid mixing ceftriaxone with calcium-containing solutions.
