Klovinal Vaginal Pessary is a unique combination medication containing clotrimazole (antifungal), metronidazole (antibiotic), and Lactobacillus spores (probiotic). This comprehensive formulation treats various vaginal infections while promoting overall vaginal health.

Uses

Klovinal Vaginal Pessary is primarily used for treating vulvovaginal candidiasis (yeast infections), managing bacterial vaginosis, treating trichomoniasis, and addressing mixed vaginal infections. It effectively combats conditions causing itching, burning, and abnormal discharge.

Benefits

  • Offers combination therapy for comprehensive treatment
  • Provides targeted delivery of active ingredients
  • Supports vaginal microbiome restoration with probiotics
  • Convenient and discreet self-administered treatment
  • Addresses multiple types of vaginal infections simultaneously

How It Works

Clotrimazole inhibits fungal growth, metronidazole targets anaerobic bacteria, and Lactobacillus spores help restore the vaginal microbiome. This multi-pronged approach effectively combats various vaginal infections while promoting a healthy vaginal environment.

Dosage

Typically, insert one pessary into the vagina once daily for 6 days. The duration may vary based on the healthcare provider’s recommendations and the severity of the infection.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include vaginal irritation or discomfort, vaginal discharge, and abdominal cramps or bloating. Serious but rare side effects can include severe allergic reactions, gastrointestinal disturbances, or neurological effects.

Warning

Use with caution if allergic to any ingredients. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their healthcare provider before use. Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment and for at least 24 hours after completing it due to the metronidazole component.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Consult a healthcare provider before using Klovinal Vaginal Pessary during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. The safety of this combination during pregnancy and lactation has not been fully established.

Interaction

  • May interact with other vaginal medications
  • Could potentially affect the efficacy of latex contraceptives
  • May interact with systemic antibiotics if absorbed
  • Metronidazole can interact with alcohol, causing severe nausea and vomiting

Important Information

Klovinal is available by prescription only. Provide a complete medical history to your healthcare provider. Avoid tampons or douches during treatment. Wash hands thoroughly before and after application. Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult your healthcare provider. Avoid sexual intercourse during the treatment period to prevent reinfection or transmission to partners.

If your period has started while using Klovinal, it’s best to pause the treatment and continue after your period ends for best results.

Menstrual flow can reduce the effectiveness of the vaginal suppository.

    Hello Dee,

A mild burning or irritation after inserting Klovinal is not uncommon, especially during the first few uses. However, if the burning is severe or persistent, it may be a sign of sensitivity or an allergic reaction. If symptoms worsen or don’t improve, please stop using it and consult your doctor or pharmacist.

    Hello Vivian,

It’s because the medication can slowly dissolve and some of it may travel upwards through the vaginal canal and be absorbed, leading to a slight taste in the mouth. It’s generally not harmful and can happen with some vaginal medications.

    Hello Pelumi,

Klovinal inserts melt on their own inside the vagina, so there's no need to remove anything in the morning. Just insert it at bedtime and let it work overnight.

Mild discharge the next day is normal—wear a pantyliner if needed.
