Malanter Dispersible Tablet is an antimalarial medication containing Artemether (80mg) and Lumefantrine (120mg). This combination therapy effectively treats acute uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria, including drug-resistant strains, with convenient dispersible formulation for easy administration.
Uses
Malanter Dispersible Tablet treats acute uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum. It’s effective against chloroquine-resistant strains and provides rapid symptom relief. The dispersible formulation makes it particularly suitable for patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets.
Benefits
- Provides rapid clearance of malaria parasites
- Effective against drug-resistant Plasmodium strains
- Reduces fever and malaria symptoms quickly
- Prevents recrudescence with dual-action mechanism
- Convenient dispersible formulation for easy administration
- High cure rates with proven efficacy
- Reduces risk of severe malaria complications
- Well-tolerated antimalarial combination

How It Works
Artemether rapidly kills blood-stage parasites by generating free radicals that damage parasite membranes, providing quick symptom relief. Lumefantrine has a longer half-life and eliminates remaining parasites while preventing reinfection. This dual-action approach ensures complete parasite clearance and reduces recurrence risk.
Dosage
Age Group | Dosage Schedule | Treatment Duration |
---|---|---|
2-3 years | 1 tablet twice daily | 3 days |
4-8 years | 2 tablets twice daily | 3 days |
9-14 years | 3 tablets twice daily | 3 days |
15+ years | 4 tablets twice daily | 3 days |
Take Malanter with water or dissolve in small amount of water. Administer with food to enhance absorption and reduce stomach irritation.
Duration of Action
Malanter begins working within hours of the first dose, with fever typically subsiding within 24-48 hours. Artemether clears most parasites within 48 hours, while Lumefantrine provides protection against recurrence for several weeks due to its extended half-life.
Side Effects
Most patients tolerate Malanter well. Common side effects include mild headache, dizziness, nausea, and diarrhea. Some patients may experience fatigue, muscle pain, or temporary sleep disturbances. These effects typically resolve without intervention as treatment progresses.
Warning
Complete the full 6-dose course even if symptoms improve. Malanter may cause QT interval prolongation in some patients. Avoid in patients with known cardiac arrhythmias or taking medications affecting heart rhythm. Seek medical attention for severe vomiting, irregular heartbeat, or persistent high fever.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Malanter can be used in the second and third trimesters when benefits outweigh risks. Use in first trimester only if no safer alternatives exist and malaria poses life-threatening risk. Limited data on breastfeeding safety, but benefits typically outweigh risks in malaria treatment.
Interaction
- May increase risk of QT prolongation with certain cardiac medications
- Potential reduced effectiveness with some anticonvulsants
- Possible interaction with certain antibiotics
- May alter effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives
- Grapefruit products may increase drug concentration levels
Precaution
Use cautiously in patients with liver or kidney impairment, cardiac conditions, or electrolyte abnormalities. Monitor patients with seizure history. Avoid in those with previous allergic reactions to artemether or lumefantrine. Confirm P. falciparum infection diagnosis when possible before treatment.
Important Information
Malanter does not prevent malaria transmission to others. Continue mosquito protection measures during and after treatment. If vomiting occurs within one hour of dose, repeat the dose. Consult healthcare provider if symptoms persist after completing treatment. Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.
