Ofloxacin Eyedrop is a prescription antibiotic medication used to treat bacterial infections of the eye. This fluoroquinolone antibiotic effectively eliminates a wide range of bacteria responsible for common eye infections.
Uses
Ofloxacin Eyedrop is primarily used to treat:
- Bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye)
- Corneal ulcers
- Other bacterial infections of the eye’s surface
Benefits
- Effectively treats bacterial eye infections
- Broad-spectrum antibiotic action
- Relatively quick symptom relief
- Convenient eye drop formulation
How it Works
Ofloxacin interferes with bacterial DNA replication, preventing bacteria from reproducing and ultimately killing them. This mechanism effectively targets the source of the infection.
Dosage
The typical dosage for Ofloxacin eye drops is one to two drops in the affected eye(s) four times daily for 7 to 10 days, or as prescribed by your eye care professional. Follow your doctor’s instructions precisely.
Application Instructions
- Wash hands thoroughly
- Tilt your head back and look up
- Pull the lower eyelid down to form a pocket
- Hold the dropper close to your eye without touching it
- Squeeze one drop into the pocket
- Close your eye gently and roll your eyeball to spread the medication
- Repeat in the other eye if prescribed
Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
- Temporary blurred vision
- Mild eye redness or irritation
- Increased tearing
- Light sensitivity
These effects are usually mild and transient. If they persist or worsen, consult your eye care professional.
Warning
- Do not use if allergic to ofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics
- Avoid using contact lenses during treatment unless directed by your doctor
- Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination
- Not recommended for children under 1 year old unless specifically prescribed
Important Information
Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve before finishing. This helps prevent the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. If symptoms worsen or persist after a few days, contact your healthcare provider.
Note
If you’re using multiple eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes between applications. If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember, unless it’s almost time for your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule.
