Hillcross Levothyroxine 100mcg Tablet is a synthetic thyroid hormone replacement medication containing levothyroxine sodium. This medication treats hypothyroidism by replacing deficient thyroid hormone, restoring normal metabolism and energy levels.
Uses
Hillcross Levothyroxine treats hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), thyroid hormone deficiency, and certain types of goiter. It’s also used following thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine treatment. The medication helps restore normal thyroid function when the body cannot produce adequate thyroid hormone naturally.
Benefits
- Restores normal thyroid hormone levels
- Improves energy levels and reduces fatigue
- Enhances metabolism and weight management
- Reduces symptoms of hypothyroidism
- Prevents goiter formation and growth
- Improves cognitive function and mental clarity
- Normalizes heart rate and cardiovascular function
- Enhances mood and reduces depression symptoms
- Supports normal growth and development
How It Works
Levothyroxine is identical to the natural thyroid hormone T4 (thyroxine) produced by the thyroid gland. Once absorbed, it converts to the active hormone T3 (triiodothyronine) in tissues throughout the body. This hormone regulates metabolism, energy production, protein synthesis, and numerous cellular functions essential for normal body function.
Dosage
Patient Group | Starting Dosage | Maintenance Dosage |
---|---|---|
Healthy Adults | 50-100mcg daily | 100-200mcg daily |
Elderly/Cardiac | 25-50mcg daily | 75-150mcg daily |
Take Hillcross Levothyroxine on an empty stomach, 30-60 minutes before breakfast with a full glass of water.
Duration of Action
Hillcross Levothyroxine has a long half-life of approximately 7 days. Initial effects may be noticed within 1-2 weeks, but full therapeutic benefits typically require 6-8 weeks of consistent treatment. Regular blood tests are needed to monitor thyroid hormone levels and adjust dosage accordingly.
Side Effects
When properly dosed, Hillcross Levothyroxine rarely causes side effects. Overdose symptoms include rapid heartbeat, chest pain, tremor, nervousness, insomnia, excessive sweating, and weight loss. Underdose may cause continued hypothyroid symptoms. Most side effects indicate dosage adjustment is needed.
Warning
Levothyroxine has a narrow therapeutic window requiring careful dosage monitoring. Never stop taking without medical supervision as this may cause severe hypothyroidism. Overdose can cause serious cardiac complications including arrhythmias, heart attack, or heart failure. Regular thyroid function tests are essential for safe treatment.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Hillcross Levothyroxine is safe and essential during pregnancy as untreated hypothyroidism can harm both mother and baby. Dosage may need adjustment during pregnancy. The medication is safe during breastfeeding as only small amounts pass into breast milk, insufficient to affect the nursing infant.
Interaction
- Calcium supplements may reduce absorption when taken together
- Iron supplements can decrease levothyroxine effectiveness
- Coffee may interfere with absorption if taken simultaneously
- Certain cholesterol medications may require dosage adjustments
- Some antacids can reduce absorption if taken within 4 hours
- Warfarin effects may be enhanced, requiring monitoring
Precaution
Use with extreme caution in patients with coronary artery disease, as rapid thyroid hormone replacement can precipitate angina or heart attack. Elderly patients require lower starting doses. Patients with diabetes may need medication adjustments as thyroid treatment can affect blood sugar control.
Important Information
Hillcross Levothyroxine is typically a lifelong medication for most patients with hypothyroidism. Take consistently at the same time daily for optimal results. Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Regular blood tests every 6-12 months monitor treatment effectiveness. Brand consistency is important as different manufacturers may have slight bioavailability differences.

What is the percentage per 100microgrames of fillers in each tablet. I take two each morning dissolved in 30 ml of water. The small amount of granules I do not consume as I suspect these could be fillers. I have a concern that consuming these each day for years to come may have an adverse effect on my Liver’s functioning. Alternatively if the small sediment is not fillers and part of the treatment please advise.

Hello Adrian👋🏼,
The sediment left behind is usually minimal inactive ingredients (not harmful fillers). Levothyroxine tablets are mostly active hormone with very small amounts of excipients. They are safe for long-term use when prescribed. If you're still concerned, please speak with your doctor or pharmacist for reassurance.
