Betavate-C Cream treats inflammatory skin disorders complicated by secondary bacterial or fungal infections. Common conditions include infected eczema, infected dermatitis, infected psoriasis, infected seborrheic dermatitis, infected intertrigo, and infected otitis externa. It also treats secondarily infected insect bites, minor wounds, and burns.

How It Works
Betavate-C Cream works through a dual mechanism. Betamethasone binds to glucocorticoid receptors, reducing inflammatory chemical production and suppressing immune response. Clioquinol disrupts bacterial and fungal cell metabolism through its iodine content and chelating properties, eliminating infectious agents on the skin surface.
Duration of Action
Anti-inflammatory effects begin within hours of application, with antimicrobial activity starting immediately upon contact. Effects typically last 12-24 hours, requiring application 1-3 times daily depending on condition severity.
Dosage
Condition | Recommended Application | Frequency |
---|---|---|
Mild infections | Thin layer | Once or twice daily |
Moderate infections | Thin layer | Twice daily |
Severe conditions | Thin layer | Three times daily |
Children | Thin layer | Once or twice daily |
Warnings
Prolonged use may cause skin thinning, striae, and increased risk of systemic absorption. Avoid application near eyes, on large areas, under occlusive dressings, or for extended periods without medical supervision. Discontinue if irritation develops or worsens. Not for use on genital or facial areas without specific medical direction.
Side Effects
Local side effects may include skin thinning, burning sensation, irritation, dryness, acne-like eruptions, and hypopigmentation. Prolonged use may lead to skin atrophy, striae, telangiectasia, increased susceptibility to skin infections, and rarely, systemic effects if absorbed in significant quantities.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Use during pregnancy only if potential benefits outweigh risks. Avoid extensive application, prolonged use, or application under occlusion during pregnancy. Not recommended during breastfeeding unless essential, and should not be applied to the breast area if breastfeeding.
