Linsmic (Tranexamic Acid Injection) 500mg is a potent antifibrinolytic medication that inhibits the breakdown of blood clots. This injectable formulation provides rapid action for controlling pathological bleeding in various clinical scenarios.

Uses

Linsmic injection treats heavy bleeding during menstruation, dental procedures in hemophilia patients, surgical procedures with high bleeding risk, traumatic injuries with significant blood loss, postpartum hemorrhage, and gastrointestinal bleeding. It is also used prophylactically before surgeries with anticipated high blood loss.

Benefits

  • Rapidly controls excessive bleeding
  • Reduces need for blood transfusions
  • Stabilizes formed blood clots
  • Prevents clot degradation
  • Effective for both acute and chronic bleeding disorders
  • Fast-acting injectable formulation
  • Cost-effective compared to blood product administration
  • Reduced surgical complications related to blood loss

How It Works

Linsmic contains Tranexamic Acid which works by competitively inhibiting the activation of plasminogen to plasmin. By blocking this conversion, it prevents the breakdown of fibrin in blood clots, thereby maintaining clot stability and reducing bleeding.

Duration of Action

The hemostatic effects of Linsmic begin within 5-15 minutes after intravenous administration. The plasma half-life is approximately 2 hours, with therapeutic effects lasting 3-8 hours depending on the dose and administration method.

Dosage

Condition Recommended Dosage Administration
Surgery 10-15mg/kg Slow IV before procedure
Trauma 1g followed by 1g IV over 8 hours
Menorrhagia 10mg/kg IV three times daily
Postpartum hemorrhage 1g IV, repeat after 30min if needed

Warnings

Linsmic should not be administered to patients with active thromboembolic disease, history of thrombosis, or severe renal impairment. Use caution in patients with hematuria as clots may cause urinary tract obstruction. Discontinue immediately if visual disturbances occur, as this may indicate retinal vein or artery occlusion.

Side Effects

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and dizziness. Less common effects include hypotension with rapid IV injection, allergic skin reactions, and visual disturbances. Rare but serious side effects include thromboembolic events, seizures, and hypersensitivity reactions.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Linsmic should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed and when potential benefits outweigh risks. Tranexamic acid is excreted in human milk in low concentrations. Exercise caution when administering to breastfeeding women.

Interactions

  • Oral contraceptives (increased clotting risk)
  • Factor IX complex concentrates (increased thrombosis risk)
  • Anti-inhibitor coagulant concentrates (thrombotic complications)
  • Tissue plasminogen activators (reduced effectiveness)
  • Heparin (altered efficacy)
  • Thrombolytic agents (antagonistic effects)
  • Chlorpromazine (increased seizure risk)

Precautions

Administer by slow intravenous injection at a rate not exceeding 100mg per minute to avoid hypotension. Regular monitoring of vital signs during administration is recommended. Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease or seizure disorders. Monitor renal function during extended therapy.

Important Information

Linsmic (Tranexamic Acid Injection) is for intravenous administration only and should be used under close medical supervision. This medication stabilizes existing clots but does not promote new clot formation. However, it may increase the risk of thrombotic events in predisposed individuals.
