Nomagbon Liquid Quinine Syrup is an antimalarial medication containing quinine as the active ingredient. This liquid formulation provides effective treatment for malaria, particularly severe cases, and is especially suitable for children and adults who have difficulty swallowing tablets.

Uses

Nomagbon Liquid treats malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum, including chloroquine-resistant strains. It’s used for severe malaria cases, nocturnal leg cramps, and as alternative therapy when other antimalarials are ineffective. The liquid form is ideal for pediatric patients and those with swallowing difficulties.

Benefits

  • Effective against chloroquine-resistant malaria strains
  • Suitable for severe malaria treatment
  • Liquid formulation for easy administration
  • Rapid onset of antimalarial action
  • Reduces fever and malaria symptoms quickly
  • Appropriate for all age groups
  • Relieves nocturnal leg cramps
  • Alternative when other antimalarials fail
  • Well-established safety profile

How It Works

Nomagbon Liquid contains quinine, which interferes with the malaria parasite’s ability to break down and digest hemoglobin in red blood cells. This disrupts the parasite’s metabolism and reproduction cycle, leading to parasite death and symptom resolution.

Dosage

Age Group Weight Range Dosage Frequency
0-1 year 5-10 kg 2.5-5ml 3 times daily
1-3 years 11-20 kg 5-10ml 3 times daily
4-6 years 21-30 kg 10-15ml 3 times daily
7-10 years 31-45 kg 15-22.5ml 3 times daily
>10 years >45 kg 20-30ml 3 times daily

Take Nomagbon Liquid with food to reduce stomach irritation. Measure doses accurately using the provided measuring cup or spoon.

Duration of Action

Nomagbon Liquid begins working within 1-2 hours of administration. Peak blood levels occur within 2-3 hours, and antimalarial effects last 6-8 hours per dose. Complete treatment usually requires 3-7 days depending on malaria severity and patient response.

Side Effects

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and ringing in the ears (tinnitus). Some patients experience dizziness, blurred vision, or stomach pain. These effects are usually dose-related and may improve as treatment continues.

Warning

Quinine can cause serious cardiac arrhythmias and low blood sugar levels. Not recommended for patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, myasthenia gravis, or known quinine hypersensitivity. Seek immediate medical attention for irregular heartbeat, severe hypoglycemia, or signs of allergic reaction.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Nomagbon Liquid can be used during pregnancy when malaria poses greater risk than potential side effects. Generally considered safe in all trimesters for malaria treatment. Quinine passes into breast milk in small amounts but is usually considered compatible with breastfeeding.

Interaction

  • May increase effects of anticoagulant medications
  • Potential interaction with cardiac medications affecting rhythm
  • May enhance hypoglycemic effects of diabetes medications
  • Could interact with certain antibiotics and antifungals
  • Possible reduced effectiveness with antacids or iron supplements

Precaution

Use cautiously in patients with cardiac conditions, liver disease, kidney impairment, or hearing problems. Monitor blood glucose levels during treatment. Avoid driving or operating machinery if experiencing dizziness or visual disturbances. Complete full course even if symptoms improve.

Important Information

Nomagbon Liquid should be stored at room temperature away from light and moisture. Shake well before each use. Do not exceed prescribed dosage. If vomiting occurs within one hour of taking dose, contact healthcare provider about repeating the dose. Regular monitoring may be required for prolonged treatment courses.
