How It Works
Primpex Tablet contains two active ingredients that work synergistically. Sulfamethoxazole inhibits bacterial folic acid synthesis while Trimethoprim blocks the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase. This sequential blockade in folate pathway prevents bacterial DNA synthesis and ultimately leads to bacterial cell death.
Duration of Action
Effects begin within 1-4 hours after administration. The half-life of Trimethoprim is approximately 8-10 hours while Sulfamethoxazole’s half-life is 9-12 hours, enabling twice-daily dosing in most cases.
