Shal’Artem Tablet 20/120mg is a fixed-dose combination antimalarial medication containing artemether and lumefantrine. This artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) effectively treats acute, uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum in pediatric patients.
Uses
Shal’Artem Tablet 20/120mg treats acute uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum parasites. It is effective against multidrug-resistant strains and can be used in areas where chloroquine resistance is prevalent.
Benefits
- Rapid parasite clearance
- Effective against resistant malaria strains
- Fixed-dose combination improves compliance
- Pediatric-appropriate formulation
- Reduces risk of severe malaria complications
- High cure rates with proper administration
- Lower relapse rates compared to monotherapy
- World Health Organization recommended treatment
How It Works
Shal’Artem Tablet works through dual mechanisms of action. Artemether rapidly reduces parasite load by targeting the parasite’s food vacuole. Lumefantrine has a longer half-life and eliminates remaining parasites, preventing recrudescence and reducing the risk of resistance development.
Duration of Action
Artemether acts rapidly with effects within hours, while lumefantrine provides extended antimalarial activity for 4-7 days after treatment completion. The combination ensures complete parasite clearance and prevents recurrence.
