Terlev-750 tablets contain 750mg of levofloxacin, a potent fluoroquinolone antibiotic that effectively treats various bacterial infections. This high-strength formulation provides broad-spectrum coverage against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, making it particularly effective for serious infections requiring robust antimicrobial therapy.
Uses
Terlev-750 is specifically indicated for treating various bacterial infections including acute bacterial sinusitis, community-acquired pneumonia, complicated urinary tract infections, acute pyelonephritis, and uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections. It’s particularly effective when high-dose therapy is required for severe or resistant infections.
Benefits
- Potent broad-spectrum antibacterial activity
- Once-daily dosing convenience
- Rapid therapeutic action
- High tissue penetration
- Effective against resistant strains
- Shorter treatment duration
- Good oral bioavailability
- Treatment option for multiple infection types
How It Works
Terlev-750 functions by inhibiting two essential bacterial enzymes: DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. This dual inhibition disrupts bacterial DNA replication and transcription, leading to rapid bacterial cell death. The medication’s unique mechanism of action makes it particularly effective against various bacterial strains, including those resistant to other antibiotics.
Duration of Action
Terlev-750 begins antimicrobial activity within 1-2 hours of administration. Peak plasma concentrations are achieved approximately 1-2 hours after dosing. The long half-life of approximately 7 hours enables once-daily dosing. Clinical improvement typically begins within 48-72 hours of treatment initiation.

Side Effects
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, headache, and dizziness. More serious side effects may include tendon inflammation or rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and changes in blood sugar levels. Psychiatric side effects like confusion or hallucinations can occur rarely. QT interval prolongation may occur in susceptible patients.
Warning
Discontinue Terlev-750 immediately at the first sign of tendon pain, swelling, or inflammation. Avoid in patients with myasthenia gravis. Exercise extreme caution in elderly patients due to increased risk of tendon problems. The medication can cause severe side effects including permanent nerve damage and may worsen muscle weakness in myasthenia gravis patients.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Terlev-750 is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to potential risks to the developing fetus and nursing infant. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on developing cartilage. Women who are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding should discuss alternative antibiotics with their healthcare provider.
Interaction
- NSAIDs may increase risk of CNS stimulation and seizures
- Antacids containing magnesium/aluminum decrease absorption
- May enhance effect of oral anticoagulants
- Avoid with drugs that prolong QT interval
- Iron supplements may decrease absorption
Precaution
Take on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Maintain adequate hydration during treatment. Avoid excessive sun exposure due to photosensitivity risk. Monitor for signs of tendinitis, especially in patients over 60 years. Those with kidney problems may require dose adjustment. Avoid strenuous exercise during treatment.
Important Information
Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve. Ensure proper hydration during treatment. Report any unusual symptoms, particularly muscle or joint pain, immediately. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you. If severe diarrhea occurs, contact your healthcare provider immediately as this could indicate a serious intestinal infection.
