P-Alaxin TS Tablet combines dihydroartemisinin and piperaquine, offering a potent antimalarial therapy. This fixed-dose combination effectively treats acute, uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum, including in areas with multi-drug resistant strains.
Uses
P-Alaxin TS is primarily used for treating acute, uncomplicated malaria caused by P. falciparum. It’s also effective in managing malaria in areas with multi-drug resistant strains and treating mixed malarial infections.
Benefits
- Highly effective against drug-resistant malaria strains
- Rapid parasite clearance
- Prolonged protective effect against reinfection
- Convenient once-daily dosing regimen
- Well-tolerated with a favorable safety profile
- Suitable for both adults and children
How It Works
Dihydroartemisinin rapidly reduces parasite load by interfering with the parasite’s ability to detoxify heme. Piperaquine, with its longer half-life, eliminates residual parasites and provides extended protection against reinfection.
Dosage
Dosage is based on body weight. For adults and children weighing 36 kg or more, the typical dose is 1 tablet once daily for 3 consecutive days. Take P-Alaxin TS with water on an empty stomach, at least 3 hours before or after a meal. Always follow your healthcare provider’s dosing instructions.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal pain, and mild diarrhea. These are usually mild and transient. Serious side effects are rare but can include severe allergic reactions, abnormal heart rhythms, or liver problems. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience severe or persistent side effects.
Warning
P-Alaxin TS should not be used for malaria prevention. It’s not recommended for patients with severe malaria or certain heart conditions. Use caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment. This medication may prolong the QT interval, potentially causing abnormal heart rhythms.
Interactions
P-Alaxin TS may interact with drugs that affect heart rhythm, certain antidepressants, antipsychotics, and some antibiotics. It may also interact with CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you’re taking.
